The Coca Cola logo, a Mercedes Benz emblem, or the little red tag on the back of a pair of Levi's -- all allow you to quickly and easily recognize products manufactured by these internationally known brands.

For these and most other established brands, converting their logos, slogans, trademarks and salesmarks have all been easy transitions.

Search engines, portal sites, ISP's and other sectors of the new online media market have followed traditional media marketing approaches and developed corporate identity through use of logos and other sales marks that can be cross promoted online and off.

While many online companies have been staid in their push for brand name recognition, one company has really stretched the boundries of using their log to convey their corporate style to the general computing public.

While some casual users of the Google search engine may have missed them, frequent users are sure to have seen at least a few of the creatives that have run in place of the now famous Google logo.

If you've missed them, you can of course go to Google and search for "google logo"... What you'll find may be more than you expected even if your a die-hard Google user.

Prior to the "Google Beta" release, the search engine was nicknamed BackRub, (for the way it checked how many and which other websites linked back to a web page in the program's index).

Find this logo at bottom of this Google Page and also see many of their early logos.

It appears the now widely recognzed, simple, colorful logotype first appeared in 1999, a facelift of one of the early logo prototypes.

It seems now that a holiday, birthday of a famous artist or scientist or the date of significant events does not go by without Google's graphic artists coming out with another stylized version of the Google logo to celebrate the occasion.

Be sure to browse the archives at Google to see five years worth of logo artwork. The collection is truly a study in modern commercial artwork and marketing vision.
