PayPal Shopping Cart CGI script, promo piece: 'Three Steps to Make Sale'

PayPal, a payment processing service owned by eBay Inc. has been the leader in online payment processing for many years.   While the service was great for eBay users and others who didn't mind signing up for the service, many people chose credit card services in the form of an online merchant account or other services offered by the bank or merchant account they used for offline sales.

For small start-ups, small business owners or individuals who wanted to test the water in the online marketplace, the cost of setting up an online store were cost prohibitive.   An e-commerce enabled web start-up could easily cost $5000 or more, and that was before selling a single items.
We have seen many online vendors who were happy because it only cost them a few thousand dollars and only took a couple months to get their store online.

      Times have changed!

Like everything else in the computer market, everything gets faster, smaller and cheaper -- and this cycle move faster and faster all the time.

Today you can spend a few hours and add a fully e-commerce enabled shopping cart to your existing website, (or within 48 hours or so start a brand new site), and spend the cost of dinner for four to do it!

First you'll need a PayPal account to handle the transaction processing.   In less technical terms --- PayPal will collect the money for you, and charge you very little to do it.

Shopping Cart Features:

  • Open Source (Perl) Code
    Don't like something... change it.
Feel free to suggest features or improvements.   We make changes and add functionality to make the software better for all users, and we have NEVER charged upgrade fees or yearly license fees --- what you pay for the software today is all you'll ever pay.   While many software companies hook you in with cheap of free software, then charge crazy fees to get their latest version -- even requiring you to buy upgrade or lose support --- we consider that practice to be counterproductive.  If you like our software, all we want is for you to tell others about us.

  • Uses Plain Text Databases   No extra fees for SQL hosting.
Bulk-edit items with any word processor or text editor.     (Can be modified easily for SQL, xBASE or any other back-end DBMS model).

  • Unlimited Categories, Sub-Categories and Items   Using simple alpha-numeric codes you can quickly create departments within your online store --- and create as many sub-categorized sales areas within those departments as you need.

Unlimited Categories, Sub-Categories and Items

You can setup as many categories and sub-categories as you like   Using simple alpha-numeric codes you can quickly create departments within your online store --- and create as many sub-categorized sales areas within those departments as you need.

Fishing Gear?   Sporting Goods, First Floor...   Browse through the fishing rods, reels, rod & reel combo packages, lures, bait and tackle areas -- don't forget about ice fishing!

A simple system of codes for Categories, Sub-Categories and Items makes it easy to organize your inventory and process your orders.
Categorysub-catCategory / Sub-Cat Name
FISH0000Fishing Gear /
FISHRODSFishing Gear / Rods
FISHREELFishing Gear / Reels
FISHCOMBFishing Gear / Rods & Reel Combos
FISHLUREFishing Gear / Lures
FISHBAITFishing Gear / Bait
FISHTACKFishing Gear / Tackle
FISHNICEFishing Gear / Ice Fishing
You can use any four alpha-numeric characters for a category, and four more for subcategories.  There is a special sub-category, "0000", (four zeros), which indicates a main category.  Although we chose simple word like categories, the program allows patterns like 0100, 0200, 0300, etc.. or AZ99, MA42, the only reserved pattern is 0000.

After the category and subcategory, there is an addition code you can use to designate an item number.   For instance, in the Item Code: "FISH-LURE-0001", the "0001" portion would imply "Fishing Gear / Lures, item #1".

Using this system of 4-character codes, even if you used only numbers, (0000 to 9999), this would allow for millions of items to be cataloged!

Let say you had 100 categories, with 100 subcategories each, and 100 items in each of those.   That's 1,000,000, (one million items)... all using only a 12 character item codes to index the items.

But, lets be realistic...   Chances are you need an online shopping cart to sell 40 to maybe 400 or so different items...   You don't want to pay all kinds of monthly services.   You want support if you need it, (and hopefully never do), and you don't want to jump through hoops to get a bit of help.

Give Our CART a Whirl!   We think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
