Is it ie or ei?
One of the most difficult spelling problems in the English language is
trying to remember which words are spelled with "ie" and which are "ei".
Some words have their own little memory rules.
For instance, to remember if the word "friend" is an ie or ei word, simply
memorize "Friend to the end", (noting that the word ends with "end", making it an ie word).
In general, the following poem will help with most ie words, but there are exceptions!
I before e,
except after c,
or when sounds like A,
in neighbor or weigh.
